A lawyer tried to show that the windows of his office were strong by throwing himself off the building.
Unfortunately, he fell to his death. The incident occurred as he was trying to convince a group of students that the windows were strong and unbreakable.
The window frame gave way after he threw himself at one of the windows, causing him to fall to the ground.
He was a highly-regarded securities and corporate lawyer who worked in the office of Holden Day Wilson, which was located on the 24th floor of a building in Toronto’s Financial District.
Although Mr. Hoy had previously thrown himself against one of the windows, he was able to show the strength of the window by doing so.
It happened in a conference room next to a boardroom.
Following the incident, the law firm closed its doors three years later.
Many experts attributed Mr. Hoy’s death to the firm’s demise.
At the time of the incident, a spokesperson for the firm noted that the glass had not broken, but it dislodged from the frame, which caused the accident.
According to Peter Lauwers, the managing partner of the firm, the incident was a freak accident.
A structural engineer noted that it was unlikely that a 160-pound person would be able to withstand the force of a glass hitting him.
His colleagues paid tribute to Mr. Hoy, describing him as an outstanding lawyer.
At the time, it was reported that Mr. Hoy had previously tried the same stunt many times.
The police and the coroner ruled his death a misadventure.
