A horrific incident in Somerset, Pennsylvania has left a community reeling after a man brutally attacked a pregnant woman, causing her to go into labor.
The Attack That Went Too Far
On December 19, a verbal altercation turned violent when Andrew Ashurst allegedly attacked the pregnant victim in a Somerset home.
The assault was brutal, with Ashurst pushing the woman into a toilet, striking her in the stomach, pulling her around the house by her hair, and even slapping her with a cell phone.
Refusing to Let Her Call for Help
But what’s even more shocking is that when the woman went into labor during the attack, Ashurst refused to let her call the police for help.
The Aftermath
When authorities finally arrived, they found the victim covered in bruises on her back, arms, eye, cheek, and forehead. The extent of her injuries is a testament to the brutality of the attack.
A Mother’s Fury
District Attorney Molly Metzgar was visibly shaken by the incident. “As a mother, I understand the vulnerability of a woman and her unborn child, and I am appalled that anyone would jeopardize the lives of these two people,” she said.
The Charges
Ashurst faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault of an unborn child, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, simple assault, and harassment. He’s currently being held on $50,000 bail.
