On August 10, Imane Khelif, a boxer from France, filed a legal complaint against the online harassment she had been subjected to.
She won a gold medal at the Paris Olympics after defeating China’s Yang Liu.
The online trolls harassed her ever since her match against Angela Carini, an Italian boxer.
In response to the hate comments she received following her victory in the Olympics, Khelif filed a lawsuit against those who made discriminatory and defamatory online posts.
Her lawyer stated that the boxer had filed a formal complaint against the individuals who made the posts.
According to the boxer, she wanted to make a difference in the world by filing a complaint.
She also stated that she had been working on her dream of becoming an Olympic gold medalist for eight years.
During an interview, Khelif talked about the online harassment she has been subjected to, and she attributed the attacks to her success.
As an athlete, Khelif hopes that the Olympics will never see similar instances of harassment.
The scrutiny began after Carini, her opponent, withdrew from their match due to health concerns.
While crying, she stated that she had never experienced anything like this before.
Although Khelif was able to participate in the Rio Olympics as one of the two female boxers who were allowed to fight, the boxing association was banned after it was revealed that they did not meet the requirements of the organization’s eligibility test.
The other athlete who was disqualified was Taiwanese boxer Li Yu Ting.
The IBA stated that both players failed the tests related to their gender and testosterone levels.
In response to the controversy, Khelif said that she was fully qualified to participate in the Olympics.
She noted that she was born a woman and had always been a woman.
Before winning a gold medal, she stated that she was a woman just like everyone else.
