Tamayo Perry, an actor best known for his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, died on Sunday after he was attacked while he was surfing in Hawaii.
According to the emergency services, they were called to Malaekahana beach at around 13:00.
Perry, who was a lifeguard, was then taken to shore by a jet ski. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He played a pirate in the fourth film of the series, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides.”
The movie, which was released in 2011, featured Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Other actors included Geoffrey Rush and Penelope Cruz.
Perry also appeared in various other movies, such as “Blue Crush,” “Lost,” and “Charlie’s Angels.” He also appeared in an ad for Coca-Cola.
Perry was born in Oahu and had been a professional surfer for over a decade.
He described his experiences in a statement on a local surfing website, where he had been an instructor. He claimed that he was capable of beating the world’s best.
Perry also stated that he had been involved in an accident a couple of years ago that turned into a very near-fatal experience.
He didn’t provide further details about the incident, but he said it was caused by someone else’s lack of awareness.
Kurt Lager, the acting head of the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department, said that Perry was a well-known individual who was loved by everyone.
Perry was known for his infectious personality, and Mayor Rick Blangiardi said that the entire community mourns his loss.
At a press conference, he described Perry as a highly-respected individual who had grown up in the area.
He also served as a part of the local ocean safety team. He said that the call that he received on Sunday was very unexpected
. He asked that his family be given the privacy to grieve.
