Sydney Player Dies During Soccer Grand Final

A man died during a soccer match in Sydney’s west on Saturday afternoon.

The incident prompted the cancellation of other events.

NSW Police said emergency services responded to Binalong Park following reports of a welfare concern.

A man in his 40s was discovered unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the identity of the man has not been confirmed by the NSW Police, the club he played for, Auburn FC, referred to him as Volkan Ergun.

The organization posted a message on its social media page, describing the grief it is experiencing at this time.

The remaining matches of the local soccer league at Binalong Park were canceled.

The other games at Auburn were also postponed.

In a statement, the chairman of the local soccer association said that they decided to suspend the matches to allow the family of the deceased player to mourn.
