House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is slamming President Donald Trump’s budget bill, calling it a reckless plan that will hurt the American people.
Jeffries claims that the bill will take away healthcare, veterans’ benefits, and even food assistance from those who need it most – including babies.
“A Complete and Total Disaster”
According to Jeffries, the bill is designed to benefit billionaire donors and “puppet masters” like Elon Musk, rather than the average American.
“These MAGA extremists are trying to jam a reckless budget down the throat of the American people,” Jeffries said during a press conference.
“Why? Because they want to pass massive tax breaks for their billionaire donors and puppet masters.”
The Budget Bill: What’s at Stake?
The House’s framework for the budget bill, which passed in February, includes $4.5 trillion for extending Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
The bill also proposes new tax breaks, including no taxes on tipped wages. However, Jeffries and other Democrats are fighting against the bill, arguing that it will hurt the most vulnerable members of society.
Trump’s Tariff Plans: “Intentionally Inflicting Pain”
Jeffries also criticized Trump’s recently unveiled tariff plans, which will level customized tariffs on countries with higher tariffs on American goods.
The House minority leader claims that the tariffs will cost the American people thousands of dollars a year and are the largest tax increase since 1968.
The Trump Administration’s Response
The Trump administration has celebrated the tariff announcements, saying they will even the trade playing field for the U.S. and bring in billions of dollars in revenue.
However, Jeffries and other Democrats are not convinced, arguing that the tariffs will hurt American workers and businesses.
“Make America Great Again” – But at What Cost?
Trump has dubbed his tariff plan “Liberation Day” and claims it will make America great again.
However, Jeffries and other critics argue that the plan will have devastating consequences for the economy and the American people.
As the budget bill hangs in the balance, one thing is clear: the fight over Trump’s agenda is far from over.
