Two Children Among Eight Shot

A gunman opened fire at a public pool in a Detroit suburb on Saturday, wounding nine people, including a couple of children.

After leading police on a manhunt, the suspect killed himself at his home.

According to Mike Bouchard, the Oakland County sheriff, an 8-year-old child was shot in the head.

His mother and another child were also in critical condition.

Initially, it was believed that there were 10 victims wounded in the attack in Rochester Hills.

However, after checking with the hospitals, the number of people who were shot has been lowered to six.

Some of them are 30 or older, and they include a 78-year old man and his wife.

The incident occurred at around 5 pm at a city park that features a splash pad and a nonslip surface.

According to the sheriff, the shooter was a random individual who drove up to the park and started shooting at people. He was able to reload multiple times.

A witness said the shooter used two guns during the attack. However, the sheriff did not confirm this claim.

In describing the chaotic scene, the sheriff said that people were falling as they tried to run away from the shooter. The gunman was reportedly in no hurry.

The suspect reportedly calmly walked away from the scene.

The police heard the call about the shooting and immediately responded to the scene.

An officer arrived on the scene in about two minutes. The sheriff also praised the first responders, who immediately started providing first aid.

Officers were also able to find a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and a possible address.

The law enforcers tried to contact the suspect inside his home, but they were unsuccessful. They then entered the house using a drone and found him dead.

A weapon was also recovered inside the house. The quick actions of the law enforcers during the manhunt prevented a possible second chapter in the incident.

The suspect, who was not from Rochester Hills, was not able to provide a reason for his visit to the splash pad.

The identity of the gunman was not released. However, the sheriff said that the suspect was 42 years old and lived with his mother.

He noted that the motive for the attack was not known.
